8th Global Kokan Festival flags off in Mumbai on grand scale!!

Mumbai, January 13, 2019: Kokan is fast becoming a land of opportunity for budding entrepreneurs and businesses. Several key businesses are looking to gain a foothold in the region. To facilitate the development of the region, Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan kicked off their mega8th Global Kokan Festival which will be held at Mumbai Exhibition Center, Nesco, Goregaon(E),Mumbai. This mega event was inaugurated on 3rdjan 2019 by Chief Guests Shri Ravindra Chavan (Minister of State- Ports, Medical Education, Information and Technology, Food and Civil supplies, Consumer protection), Shri. Deepak Kesarkar (Minister of State for Home (Rural), Finance and Planning). All party core committee consisting of Shri.AshishShelar(MLA), Shri. BhaiJagtap(MLA), ShriBhaskar Jadhav(MLA) and Shri Sunil Shinde(MLA) Shri Sanjay Yadavrao(Chief Convener, Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan) and Shri Kishore Dhariya will be part of this event . The show is organaised with support of MTDC and MIDC.

Inaugural day saw visionaries from Kokan region being awarded for their work in the region. The awardees were Shri. Mahesh Manjrekar(Hudi), Shri Uday Bapat (Diveagar), Ms. Priyanka Save(Palghar) who have strived hard to make their areas better and self sufficient. Also, electric rickshaws from NIBE were launched at the event by the dignitaries. These electric rickshaws will be used in Diveagar as it strives to become the first eco village in Kokan. Major announcements were made showcasing several key projects like GI tagging of Alphonso Mango and Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan is launching their own organic mango brand, 4 rivers have been adopted and will be resurrected. Internationally favourite water sports and back water tourism to be developed in the region. 

Speaking at the inauguration Shri Ravindra Chavan shared, “It is important for Maharashtra that Kokan has to prosper as a region. It has huge untapped potential to be a huge money spinner and employment generator for the state”. Shri Deepak Kesarkar further added, “We have always worked for the development of Kokan, and we intend to keep this revolution alive for our future generations to enjoy the treasures of this region.”

Shri Ashish Shelar further added, “Global Kokan Festival is a revolution which has been sparked by Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan, and we all should band together to make this into reality.” Shri Bhai Jagtap also shared, “Various wonderful schemes have been planned in kokan for which government needs to co-operate and take this revolution forward.”

Shri Sanjay Yadavrao, Chief Convener Global Kokan Festival shared, “Development of Kokan has been at the top of the agenda for Kokan Bhumi Pratisthan as well as Global Kokan Festival. We are showcasing the investment potential, business generation strength of the region which will help the region to be prosperous and be amongst the richest in the country.”

A special roundtable discussion with Shri. Suresh Prabhu (Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation) has been organaised on 5th Jan 2019 on Make in Kokan. They will be discussing on the finer aspects of development of Kokan.

Key highlights of this year will be Vision 2025 seminars, Make in Kokan& Start-up Kokan pavilions along with special seminars of Tourism, fisheries and Agriculture.Besides the seminars, there are cultural shows, Kokan food festival, Organic Farmers Market and much more on offer at Global Kokan Festival 2019.

The 8th edition of Global Kokan Festival will provide a platform for several self-employment projects at every village in Kokan in the areas of Tourism, Modern Agriculture, Processing, Fisheries, Port Development, Infrastructure and many more. The event is thus supported by Government Departments such as MTDC, Agriculture, Fisheries, MPEDA, Maharashtra Maritime Board, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, Maharashtra Eco Tourism Board and more.
