HYDERABAD, MARCH 21, 2014:
In what can be a welcome trend, a majority of engineering graduates feel that the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are good places to work in, according to a survey conducted by the TMI group.

These enterprises were seen as offering good work-life balance, friendly work-culture and speedy career growth. As per the survey, conducted among 328 engineering gradates here with work experience ranging from zero to five years, also showed that 98 per cent of the engineers were also open to take up job in these enterprises. The survey findings assume significance in view the serious talent crunch the SMEs are facing now.

About 45 per cent of the respondents felt that both large companies and SMEs were good options and come with their pros and cons. Surprisingly, 46 per cent think that large companies were not good workplaces due to unhealthy competition, lack of job security and long working hours.Proximity to home was the third on the list of preferences.

Commenting on the findings, T Muralidharan, Executive Chairman, TMI Group, said: “The findings come as a relief given the number of engineering graduates entering the pool of jobseekers every year and recruitment in large companies falling drastically. This is the right time for SMEs to highlight the advantages of working with them.’’
