Mumbai, March 09, 2019: Hundreds of men, women and children took to the streets of Mumbai on the occasion of International Women’s Day to pledge their support to menstrual hygiene awareness. Run4Niine, India’s largest nationwide run took place in over 500 cities across India to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and address the taboos around menstruation. In Mumbai, the event began at St. Xaviers School at 7 am this morning and concluded at Karnataka Sports Ground at 9:30 am.
Renowned television personality and Niine Sanitary Napkins Brand Ambassador Manav Gohil flagged off the Mumbai event with Chief Guest Dr. Bharati Lavekar, MLA – Versova Constituency and founder of TEE Foundation, an NGO with the singular aim of tackling women’s issues. Dr Lavekar was joined by Pad Hero Deana De Menezes, Founder of Red is the new Green and beauty pageant winner Sangeeta Singh, who is actress and Mrs Universe East Asia 2018.
The event began with a warm up session followed by a Zumba performance and a march by NCC cadets. Run4Niine Mumbai was organised by Latika Sheth of JCI India, the non-profit organisation encouraging young people to be active responsible citizens and to take the ‘Let’s Talk About Periods’ message to over 500 streets.
Speaking about Run4Niine actor Manav Gohil said, “There is a huge taboo surrounding menstruation and only such consistent efforts can defeat the prejudice. Men were a part of today’s event and what’s more remarkable is the fact that no one feels shy or ashamed anymore to talk about such issues. Such initiatives have sprung up in so many places and I am extremely proud to be associated with such an event.”
