An ordinary commerce graduate need not dream big – especially when he held a plush job at Ernst and Young. But when a powerful idea envelops your mind, no dream seems too BIG. Obstacles such as lack of technical grasp seem merely by the way. Following the suit of “If you can dream it you can do it”, a duo Saurav and Nikyta Modi laid the foundation of Just Jute Products in 2005.
The plush job and family business of Wholesale Tea distribution didn’t excite Saurav Modi enough. Soon the idea was conceptualized seeing dearth of quality jute bag suppliers in Bangalore. The biggest challenge of initial capital; was resolved by Mr. Modi’s Mother who came for his rescue and handed him 8,000 Rupees. Starting with that amount, from a rented garage Saurav Modi burnt midnight oil for the next three years, doing everything from cutting to printing to packing and delivering the products. Today, they established a factory spread over 12000 Sqft with over 100 people.
The couple has always concentrated on delivering value added products along with world class service. They have recently launched their in house brand under the name ‘NYK’ which is the fastest growing brand in handbags, based in Bangalore. It has created a niche for itself in a short span of time and is estimating 1.5 million USD turnover by 2015.
The brand has in house manufacturing facility in Bangalore with an annual capacity to manufacture 100,000 Units of ladies hand bags in a year.
Amongst accessories which are an Impulse buy category, Bags are of utmost importance. Imbibing the spontaneous, vibrant & independent nature of the 21st century women, NYK aims to appeal to the Gen Y woman who has high ambitions & lives with an impulsive spirit. Being Quality as the priority, the product is delivered by the masters of bag making. The products have unique designs and moreover the products are made in India. NYK currently is available in Central chain of stores in Bangalore, Surat and Ahmedabad and are also available on Myntra/Jabong/Flipkart and other popular online portals.
