Events Offer Opportunities for Aspiring Entrepreneurs, Startups, Designers and Techies

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, December 20, 2012 — (Business Wire India) — Four startups promoting greater health awareness received a healthy infusion of financial support and other prizes as part of the recent Startup Weekend in Delhi.

The companies were among 70 that registered for the event, a Kauffman Foundation initiative to support passionate leaders and entrepreneurs striving to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Intuit India supported the Delhi event as part of its strategy to encourage entrepreneurial ventures in all its markets.

Startup weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can learn whether their startup ideas are viable. The recent Delhi event focused on health-oriented businesses. It attracted more than 70 registrants who pitched 40 ideas, formed 13 teams and met with 11 sponsors and partners. In addition eight mentors also provided advice.

Startups who demonstrated the most passion and excellence in execution received prizes that included discounts on incorporation or business license registration, a one-year subscription to QuickBooks Online, free website hosting and free co-working arrangements in Delhi.

Top honors went to LoveDoctor.in, a website, mobile app and phone service that lets users ask questions confidentially about sex and healthy relationships and get real-time answers from trained counselors. The second place award went to NUKU Vigor, an online marketplace where the physically challenged can gain access to experiences of fun, thrill and excitement.

Nikhil Arora, Vice President and Managing Director of Intuit India, was one of the jury members who identified the best startup ideas.

“In today’s globalized world, it’s important that we partner with like-minded people to provide an avenue for aspiring entrepreneurs, startups, designers and techies, to learn from each other and make it BIG,” Nikhil said. “At Intuit, it’s been our endeavor to be one of the top eco-system enablers in the small business space in India by supporting programs such as Super Angels in partnership with ET Now, or creating resources such as the White Paper on Barriers to Technology Adoption with the Ministry of MSME and the Intuit Small Business India blog. We see a lot of synergy in the Startup Weekend initiative and are delighted to be associated with this platform that recognizes and rewards entrepreneurship and innovation.”
