New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 — (Business Wire India) — GROHE from Germany, the world’s number 1 brand in sanitary fittings, recently launched a Skill Enhancement Programme at the GROHE JAL Academy, Mumbai to optimally train its service technicians for this important aspect of their profession.

The new residential programme means that the youngsters attending the academy’s plumber training workshop will be joined by a total of 100 service technicians from all over India. Coming to Mumbai in batches of 20 for ten days, they will be looked after by a resident service engineer and a service technician. The Skills Enhancement Programme, which includes the development of behavioural skills, also offers the local students attending the training centre a valuable opportunity to expand their skills in such areas as customer relationship, etiquette and work ethics.

Professional and courteous behaviour even when dealing with difficult customers is a day-to-day requirement in modern customer service industries.

The first batch of this programme witnessed the well learned professors such as K. Srinivas Raju, Technical Manager at GROHE, India operations and Amarr G. Prabhu, principal of the St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute of Don Bosco Mondo, introducing the programme to the trainees.

This included advising them to enhance their knowledge and encouraging the class to translate their newly acquired skills into real-life situations and never to forget that a good plumber’s duty is not only to achieve customer satisfaction but also to save water, in keeping with the GROHE brand’s commitment to sustainability.

Commenting on the initiative, Renu Misra, VP and MD, GROHE India said “Serving today’s customers requires a lot more than purely technical expertise, namely tact and discretion in dealing with people, we are hoping that New Skill Development programme in Grohe Jal Academy will provide a valuable knowledge for GROHE service technicians in India and enhance the quality of service.”

The location for the new Skill Enhancement Programme is well chosen. Established in 2009 by GROHE and Don Bosco Mondo, the GROHE JAL Academy is centred on a fully equipped training workshop for young people from economically challenged backgrounds. By qualifying trainees to become professional plumbers, the academy gives them the opportunity to start a career as a skilled tradesman and to earn their livelihood. Last year this successful project won the first prize in the Innovation Competition for Professional Education Projects in Developing Countries sponsored by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
