Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management proposes to the Prime Minister of India to institute two separate awards from next year to be given to an enterprising Kisan and to a Jawan whose services to the nation have been found to be exemplary

New Delhi, April 03, 2016: One of the foremost business schools in India, Lal Bahadur Institute of Management (LBSIM), inspired by the ideals and vision of value-based education held by the ex-Prime Minister of India, late Lal Bahadur Shastri decides to propose to the Prime Minister of India for instituting two separate awards from next year to be given to an enterprising Kisan and to a Jawan whose service to the nation have been found to be exemplary.

Announcing the decision of the institute, the Chairman of LBSIM, Anil Shastri stated, “the idea is inspired by the catch line – JAI JAWAN & JAI KISAN – so dear to the former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. Concerned about security at the border and food scarcity back home, Shastri ji propounded the slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan for the first time in a village called URVA in the district of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh way back in October 1965. The idea is as relevant today as it was 50 years back in that it still resonates across the length of the width of the nation.

Anil Shastri further stated that this will be the first time ever that a credible award is being contemplated to be conferred upon two of the crucial characters of democracy – soldier and farmer – whose contributions to the preservation and sustenance of the Indian society are yet to receive the degree of acknowledgement and honour they deserve. It is befitting for LBSIM – due to its legacy and the credentials – to have contemplated the idea whose time has come.”

The modality of implementing the idea to be proposed is being brain stormed in terms of composition of the Jury, criteria for selection, research base, and method of seeking nominations.

Dr Shastri further elaborated, “We may recommend to the government to resort to a multi-layered selection process consisting of the traditional methods and harnessing social media as well for the purpose.”

Anil Shastri disclosed the idea of proposing the institution of the awards while concluding the preparations for the 21st Annual Convocation Ceremony of LBSIM to be held on the 5th of April 2016, wherein the former Law Commission member, Professor Mool Chand Sharma will be the Chief Guest.
