Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) concluded their 35thAnnual Function. Present on the occasion were Chief Guest, Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning & Defence, Guests of Honour Shri R. N Dhoot, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri R. S Sharma, IAS, Secretary, DeitY along with Mr. Anirudh Dhoot, President, CEAMA, Mr. Manish Sharma, President Elect, CEAMA and other prominent industry leaders.
At the Annual Function, Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning & Defence, felicitated Mr. Soon Kwon, Managing Director, LG Electronics India, with the ‘Man of Electronics Award’. The award celebrates his all-round contribution to the Indian Electronics and Appliances Industry through the years.
The domestic consumer electronics industry in India is already poised to soon become the fifth largest consumer durables market in the world. This power packed session saw key industry leaders and members of CEAMA discuss and work towards building a strong brand for the industry globally, focus on priority areas and resolve issues through a collaborative approach. The association effectively promotes the growth of manufacturing by bringing the manufacturers at a common platform to discuss the way forward in the sector of CE & HA. Keeping in line with this, CEAMA supports Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’ through which he aims to strengthen the global footprint, manufacturing and investments for India. The industry needs to come together and start looking at home-grown sources for components and raw materials, as this will pave the way for indigenous manufacturing.
Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning & Defence, said that “India has the potential to develop and manufacture electronics hardware for the global markets and gain higher global share besides meeting country’s future requirement. Advancements in the electronics sector also contributes in strengthening country’s defence sector. The way forward for electronics industry is a healthy relationship between the Govt. & the industry to put India in a strong, dominant position in the global electronics map. “
Mr. R. S Sharma, IAS, Secretary, DeitY spoke about “The Government has always been supportive of the growth and development of the consumer electronics sector and has initiated several initiatives for the development of sector like the National Policy on Electronics (NPE). One of the most important objectives of NPE is to achieve a turnover of about USD 400 Billion by 2020, involving investment of about USD 100 Billion and employment to around 28 million by 2020. Going forward also, we see tremendous growth for the industry with ‘Make in India’ campaign launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister paving the way forward for indigenous manufacturing encouraging the growth of the sector as well as the country.”
Mr. R.N Dhoot, Hon’ble Member of Parliament , said that “Government has notified Electronic Policy to incentivize Electronic Hardware manufacturing in the country. Consumer electronic products produced indigenously will provide value a boost to the industry as well as the economy. Such advancements will also bring an impetus various other areas also like education, medicine and banking.”
Also sharing his views Mr. Anirudh Dhoot, President CEAMA & Director, Videocon Group, said that “We, at CEAMA have made efforts to promote the growth and development of electronic hardware industry in the country, which is expected to grow by 40 percent in the next 2-3 years. This growth is attributed to the tremendous work done by the industry and the support extended by the Government through various initiatives.He further added that “I would like to congratulate Mr. Manish Sharma, Managing Director, Panasonic India and South Asia, for being elected as the CEAMA President.”
