China Battery Industry News Flash by WBE Committee

New Delhi, April 10, 2020: China’s battery companies are moving to explore more development since COVID-19 has been put under control in the country. Here comes a collection of battery industry hot spots in China by WBE Committee.

【Policy】

  • On April 7, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the revision of the market admission of new energy vehicles (NEVs) enterprises and products, making lower entry barriers for (NEVs) manufacturers with their products, which aims at promoting the high-quality development of China’s NEVs industry.
  • On April 3, Guangzhou issued several measures to promote the upgrade of the local automobiles industry, which included a comprehensive subsidy of 10,000 yuan for each NEVs purchaser and per new pure electric taxi, etc.
  • On March 26, Shandong Province announced that Qingdao planned to build a new energy vehicle industry base with an area of 21.3 sq.km., and the industrial scale of the base is expected to reach 170 billion yuan by 2025.
  • This March, Guangxi announced that Guangxi plans to build 20,335 NEVs charging piles and 58,100 charging sockets in 14 districts by 2022, with a total investment of 1.39 billion yuan.
  • From 2020, Hainan government provides subsidies to the province’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure in batches. According to the 2019-2030 plans of Hainan, by 2030, the number of new energy vehicles (NEVs) here will add up to around 1 million, as well as charging piles to 940,000.

【Technology】

  • Recent, a research group led by Prof. Tang Yongbing from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Prof. Zheng Zijian from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, have proposed a flexible interface design to regulate the alloying stress of silicon anode, which has been successfully applied to the silicon-graphite DIBs.

【Data】

  • March 31, BAIC BJEV announced to build a high-end production base in Yizhuang, Beijing, which covers around 578,000 sq.m., with a total investment of 2.7 billion yuan. It is the second high-end manufacturing base of BAIC BJEV, while the first one located in Jiangsu.
  • According to China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA), by January, 531,000 public charging piles and 712,000 for private were built nationwide. Experts predict that to reach the national goal, more 63 million piles are demanded in the next 10 years.
  • Data from the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance: in 2019, China’s total installation volume of power batteries was 62.2GWh, up 9.2% year-on-year.
