Kochi, October 01, 2016: In an endeavour to promote positive social values through the medium of art and encourage young artists, Cox & Kings, the leading travel company in association with David Hall Art Gallery presented an engaging art exhibition titled ‘Imprints: Mapping memories’, a series of paintings by artist Reshma Thomas. Reshma’s works that capture the relationship between art and emotion and centres around different aspects of a child’s young mind were unveiled at the gallery in the presence of Ms. Rika Jean-Francois, CSR Commissioner ITB Berlin and Sandeep Dayal, (Head- Sales, BD, Special Projects, Inbound Travel) Cox & Kings.

Reshma, a self-taught artist, is known for her exploration of deeper perspectives in life and her art subsumes simple instances of society and culture in an extraordinary manner. Her new series of work ‘Imprints’, is a simple yet powerful take on the way we impact so many lives every day, especially children. Reshma explains “Imprints is an artistic exploration striving to express that our words and actions towards children today play a huge role in shaping their behavioural pattern. Through these paintings, I wanted to highlight that various situations, good or bad, confronted by a child’s young mind leave behind a huge impact on their character, some of which may get etched as memories in the future. These works explore how parents, teachers, siblings and we as a society need to be more mindful and conscientious of the ways in which we interact with children.”

Karan Anand, Head, Relationships, Cox & Kings said, “Cox & Kings is committed tovarious initiatives that address the social issues of our society. We believe that while education is vital to shaping a child’s future, it is equally important that we as a community stress on the need to positively influence their lives, as they stride towards becoming responsible citizens in the future. This exhibition is an effort to creatively address such subjects as well as encourage artists like Reshma who use the power of art to influence the society at large.”

As part of the series, Reshma will also conduct painting and creative writing workshops at multiple schools in Kochi to demonstrate factors influencing children’s behaviour. Children will be asked to draw or write about instances that have impacted them the most, thereby giving them an opportunity to creatively express their bottled-up emotions. Selected works will be showcased as part of the series on 30th September.

The series will be open for public viewings from 29th September to 4th October 2016 at the David Hall Art Gallery.
