Bangalore February 24, 2014:- Karnataka’s exports have been increasing annually at a rate of 18 per cent compared to the volume of exports during previous two financial years.

“State’s exports were ₹2.18 lakh crore in 2011-12 and ₹2.58 lakh crore during 2012-13,” said SR Patil, Karnataka Minister of IT/BT, speaking at the State export excellence awards event.

Calling on Karnataka businessmen to create ‘Brand Bangalore’ globally in all spheres of trade, he said, “We have already created a Brand Bangalore image at global level thanks to our leadership position in IT sector. Here we must acknowledge the contribution made by Bangalore-based IT companies such as Infosys and Wipro, to achieve this feat.”

“Of course, the local talents, who outshine their overseas colleagues at their workplace abroad also contributed to this brand image,” he added.

Product ambassadors

Now we need you to create true ambassadors for our country and the State like Samsung products which are representatives of South Korea. Toyata, Honda, Sony etc, are ambassadors of Japan, he further said.

With superior quality production they created brand value for their countries. Mere tags such as made in Japan, made in South Korea, made in Germany and so on will get products moving like hot cakes in global markets.

Patil said: “Hence, I plead you not to compromise on the quality of product under any circumstances. Though such compromising may fetch you immediate reward it is capable of snatching away lifetime earnings. Also, it spoils the Brand India image. Have more and more technical partnership with global companies. Deploy best machines to see that your products are superior in all respects.”

The State has earned recognition in IT-BT sectors; it is ranked fourth in the country for merchandise exports with a contribution of 6.3 per cent to national exports. It is ranked third in the country in attracting foreign direct investment. It is in the forefront in establishing special economic zones to supplements the growth of exports.

Recently Karnataka has announced new IT Policy facilitating the growth of the sector to the next level. “It has thrown open plenty of opportunities to new companies, especially those who are ready to go to Tier II and Tier III cities. Focus will remain on IT-BT sector because it is our strength,” he said.
