New Delhi, October 15, 2017: Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) , today announced that the revamped Terminal-2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport will be operational on 29th October 2017.
GoAir becomes the first airline to accept DIAL’s proposal and decided to shift its entire operations to Terminal 2 with effect from 00:01 hours of 29th October 2017.
In order to facilitate the growth of IGI Airport, GoAir has mutually agreed with DIAL to move its entire operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 from October 29, 2017 until the completion of the expansion of Terminal 1.
This is a temporary move to ease the pressure of fast growing traffic at Terminal 1, so that the expansion works can be carried out at Terminal 1 effectively and efficiently. The Terminal 1 is set to be expanded from the current capacity of 20 million to 40 million per annum with 22 aerobridges, and state of the art infrastructure. The expansion process will encompass all major areas of the airport i.e. Landside, Terminal and Air side and will be completed within four years.
Commenting on the development, I Prabhakara Rao, CEO-DIAL said, “In view of the robust growth in passenger traffic and upcoming airport expansion works, DIAL has revamped and is recommissioning the Terminal 2 of the IGI Airport with effect from 29th October, 2017. We welcome GoAir in its new home terminal in Terminal 2. This will enable us to start the expansion works at Terminal 1 and carry it on seamlessly.”
Jeh Wadia, MD, GoAir, said: ” in order to support the government and DIAL’s plans to upgrade and expand the airport facilities as well as continuously improve the customer experience and the seamless integration of international and domestic passengers, we are delighted to move into a newly furbished Terminal 2 at IGI Airport. The move to Terminal 2 will also now help us expand and further improve our connectivity to more destinations from Delhi as well as helping us add more frequency to our existing connections, This will ensure our customers have more choice and a better experience flying GoAir from Delhi. We are looking forward to working with DIAL in expanding our relationship.”
DIAL and Go Air working together will ensure that the move to Terminal 2 benefits the passengers and provides them with comfortable experience. Together the airline and the airport developer will also ensure that all passengers flying GoAir are suitably made aware of the move and advised.
All infrastructures at Terminal 2 are fully ready and DIAL is planning to initiate the ORAT procedures w.e.f. 17th October 2017, 12 days prior to the re-commencement date of Terminal 2. To ensure the smooth transition of shifting of flights DIAL has also identified adequate number of aircraft parking bays, airline office space and other related facilities.
The Terminal 2 of the IGI Airport has various key features to provide seamless experience to flyers including adequate check-in counters, X-ray machines, baggage reclaim belts and aerobridges & parking bays for aircraft.
