ECI Announces Schedule of Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls in Haryana, Jharkhand & Maharashtra

New Delhi, June 09, 2014 – As the general elections to the legislative assemblies of Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra are due to be held, the Commission has announced the schedule for Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to 01.01.2014 as the qualifying date in these States, with the purpose to provide one more enrollment opportunity to all eligible persons.

2. Draft electoral rolls will be published on 9th June 2014.Claims for getting names enrolled in the electoral rolls and objections, if any, against the enrolment of any person in the electoral roll can be filed at the respective polling stations before designated officer from 9th June 2014 to 30th June 2014. Special Campaigns will be organized on 21st June, 22nd June, 28th June and 29 th June 2014 at every polling station in these States. On these dates, draft electoral roll of that polling station will be made available for viewing of electors along with the adequate number of Forms-6 for enrolment. The electoral rolls will be finally published on 31.07.2014.

3. Chief Electoral Officers shall ensure that a copy of electoral rolls is put on their Websites with search facility by name and EPIC number. At the district level, complaint cells and call centre with ‘1950’ short code, shall be made functional during the revision period.

4. In addition to the above, for facilitation of all left out electors, Chief Electoral Officers of the above States have been asked to organize special camps with adequate publicity of the dates on which such camps shall be organized in each polling station area. On the camp day, electoral roll of the polling station shall be pasted on the wall of the polling station so that citizens can check their names easily. The electoral roll including deletion list shall also be read out aloud at the polling stations in the presence of assembled electors.

5. A notice informing the persons whose names have been deleted earlier will be dropped at their residence with a Form-6 attached thereto to enable the said persons to fill the application form immediately. In the specific cases of acuteness of problems, District Election Officer may declare ‘Name Check on Roll Week’ with special arrangements at polling station level.

6. Chief Electoral Officers have been directed to take up elaborate voter education and awareness measures for maximizing enrolment and correction of Roll during this Summary Revision in a targeted manner with support of a series of partner agencies and also through a comprehensive multi-media campaign.
