Circa 1958 – a group of young technocrats indigenously developed India`s first sheet steel enclosed rewirable switch at Jalandhar in Punjab. Thus was born the Indo Asian Fusegear Limited (IAFL). The company specializes in the manufacture of a wide variety of electrical equipment including Lighting Products, Wires & Cables and Wiring Accessories amongst others at its various state-of-the-art plants in Northern India situated at Jalandhar (Punjab), Sonepat (Haryana), Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and Parwanoo (Himachal Pradesh). Now, five and a half decades later the enterprise manufactures a basket of technology intensive electrical products like Low Voltage Electrical Switchgear, Fusegear, Protection &Lighting Equipment, LED Lamps, High Energy Efficient Fans, Hitech Lithium Ion Batteries for Mobile Phones, Computers, Cameras and Accessories; Luminaires and Home Automation and Switching Devices. No wonder with its presence in markets across the globe, the company is today synonymous with high quality products for electrical distribution, protection and lighting equipment in India, as well as other developed countries.

A wide variety of world-class products manufactured here prompted a makeover beginning with a change of name from IAFL to the all-encompassing new entity Eon Electric Limited (EEL).  Hugely spurring this change was when EEL won the SME Award for the ‘Emerging India Awards – 2007’ organized by ICICI Bank, CRISIL & CNBC TV 18 in the category Auto, Auto Ancillaries and Engineering for its CMD, V.P.Mahendru and Team. Mahendru has been the President of Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA); President of Northern India Switchgear Manufacturers Association (NISMA); President of Federation of Engineering Industries of India (FEII); and also member of the Governing Body of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS/ISI) contributing to the strategic policies for formulation and implementation of Indian Standards for various electrical and electronic equipment. In 1992 the firm was listed on Bombay Stock Exchange. At present the company has signed a Joint Venture with OMS Slovakia Europe for manufacture of state-of-the-art lighting and luminaries with Eon’s holding 51 % share in the JV. EEL exports its lighting products, wires and cables to over 40 countries across Europe, Australia, Africa, Middle East and New Zealand.

There have been a number of firsts for EEL over the years as listed below:
