Celebrates the city’s creative community with a day of DIY workshops, pop-ups & panels

Mumbai, November 06, 2018: Etsy, the global marketplace for unique and creative goods organised a ‘Creators Loft’ to interact with the creative community in Mumbai and introduce them to the world of Etsy. Saturday afternoon witnessed the Maximum City embracing customised clothing, DIY necklaces, handmade letterboxes and messy paintings at the Etsy’s ‘Creators Loft’.

The event was hosted in Mumbai which was brought alive by an afternoon of special workshops, pop-ups and panels, encouraging Mumbaikars to take art back into their hands and let their creative juices flow.

The creator’s loft saw a plethora of activities, with a varied range of DIY workshops. Ranging from needling to woodwork and zine making, conducted by a bunch of extremely talented creators – the creators loft made sure there was something for everyone. The audiences were spoilt for choice- whether to make some stunning paper-art with Little Elfin or to make (from scratch) their own wooden boxes under the guidance of Studio Wood. The highlight of the evening was the Denim customisation workshop by Lianne, by the end of which every participant walked away with an entirely custom designed denim jacket of their own.

Simultaneously, a thought-provoking panel discussion on ‘Creativity, Sustainability & Innovation’ was conducted. The diverse panel consisted of Mr. Himanshu Wardhan, MD Etsy India, Ms. Madhuvanthi Senthilkumar (Design Fabric), Sanvar Oberoi (Boheco) and Binit Vasa (Maker’s Asylum). Followed by a soulful acoustic performance by the supremely talented Nyla Saldanha.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Himanshu Wardhan, Managing Director India, Etsy, said, “Etsy is a special place where people around the world connect, both online and offline to make, sell and buy unique goods. We aim to make Etsy the default platform of choice for any creative entrepreneur and we want every person who is making anything to be on Etsy. The Creators Loft was the perfect opportunity to interact with Mumbai’s creative community. It’s called the City of Dreams, but could be called the City of Creativity & Imagination as well. We hope to create more opportunities for Mumbai’s maker community to sell their products to a much wider audience globally.”

Celebrating creativity since 2005, Etsy, Inc., established a team in India earlier this year focussing on creating more opportunities for Indian micro-entrepreneurs to sell their products globally. Sellers from India have been a big part of the Etsy seller community since its inception and there are currently more than 750,000 items available on Etsy from Indian sellers.
