Taking a strong exception to reports of protests and manhandling officials of State Government at Kolhapur, Maharastra, Mr. K. Shiva Shanmugam, President, FKCCI strongly condemned the incident. The Shiv Sena staged a protest, shouted slogans and posed a threat to officials who visited on invitation from an Association in Kohlapur. FKCCI strongly condemns physical attacks on the Officers of State Government who were performing their assigned duties as ‘God’s Work’.

In the present slow industrial development scenario, foreign direct investment is accorded red-carpet welcome. Hence, we need to encourage industrialists to choose their place of operation without any restrictions across the State borders. The border issues should not hinder growth and holistic development of Nation. Every State needs to create an atmosphere of safe conduct of business and instill a sense of security among industrialists. Inter-State rivalry will tarnish the image of the country and is counterproductive, Mr Shanmugam observed.

Mr. K. Shiva Shanmugam has called for immediate intervention by the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Karnataka to view the incidence seriously and institute a detailed enquiry. He urged steps to curb such happenings in future in the mutual interest of States.
