Yangon, September 14, 2019: The final selection event and awarding ceremony of the first Myanmar National Cloud & AI Contest, which is co-organized by Rectors Committee, Research & Development Institute of Ministry of Education, and Myanmar Computer Federation, supported by Huawei Company, was held on September 7th at MICT Hall in Hlaing Township Yangon. The top 11 shortlisted teams from computer and technology universities across the country presented their projects written for various sectors in front of a panel of judges, guests, and media. Winning teams were selected in accordance with the principles of the contest and awarded at the end of the event.

The winners are selected based on specific criteria including technical maturity, technology foresight, idea originality, solution progressive, business scenario, economic feasibility, interactive design and creative manner. All Cloud and AI technology for contest are provided by world leading Huawei cloud platform. Winning teams are awarded with Huawei internship opportunities, Huawei products and Huawei Certificate Vouchers and Honor of Education (HoE) Certificates according to different prize level.
The aim of the Huawei Cloud & AI Contest is to provide an opportunity of growth and challenge for the up-coming generation of talented youth as they prepare the way forward into the technology wave including IoT, 5G, Cloud and AI. With the commitment of building a fully connected, intelligent world, Huawei also conducted a number of activities to support ICT talent development in Myanmar. Such activities included signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Huawei and the Rectors’ Committee, giving ICT Talent Development Scholarships to excellent students to cultivate the next generation of ICT experts fulfilling the growing needs of talents in Myanmar ICT sector.
Dr. Myo Kwe, president of National Education Policy Commission, said “This contest could benefit the future of Myanmar Education and should be encouraged. All total 117 teams registered, and final top eleven teams are selected among them. From this contest, all participated students will achieve the moral benefit like the team spirit, leadership skills, innovative ideas and technically wider knowledge about the cutting-edge technologies like AI and Cloud. I would like to thank to Huawei, Rectors’ Committee, Myanmar Computer Federation and Department of Research and Innovation who supported and organized this Cloud & AI contest.”
