Godrej Security Solutions in association with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) successfully organized a seminar on setting new benchmarks in security

Mumbai, March 17, 2017: An interactive seminar on ‘PHYSICAL SECURITY PRODUCTS IN BANKS (PSP) & OTHER INSTITUTIONS’ was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department, Bureau of Indian Standards, recently at Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd, Plant 17, Pirojshanagar, Vikhroli, Mumbai. The seminar was attended by over 100 participants from various stakeholders such as banking and other financial institutions, manufacturers, testing agencies, BIS licensees, concerned Government departments, officers of BIS etc.

Shri A Renga Rajan, Head, Mechanical Engineering Department, BIS welcomed dignitaries, participants and members of the press/media. In his welcome address, he informed the audience about the ‘Programme Objectives’ of the seminar and the benefits of organizing the seminar in Mumbai. He also traced the history of establishment of Bureau of Indian Standards.

Bureau of Indian Standards is the national standards body of India, formerly known as Indian Standards Institution (ISI), which was established in the year 1947. Indian Standards Institution (ISI) was changed to Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) through an Act of Parliament in 1986. BIS has so far formulated more then 18900 Indian Standards. BIS is also founder member of ISO and is having close coordination with ISO in formulation of ISO Standards.

Shri S K Dube, Chairman, Security Equipment Sectional Committee, MED 24 & General Manager (Tech), Premises Department, RBI, Mumbai gave the keynote address. In the Address, while highlighting the need of conducting such seminar, emphasized on the need for more interaction between industry, user representatives and BIS. He also emphasized that this is a very good platform for discussing the Standardization activity to augment the development of Indian Standards on security products in banks and other financial institutions and for review of the existing Standards on the same and update them in line with the latest advancements in manufacturing technology. He also appreciated the efforts of Mechanical Engineering Department, BIS for organizing the seminar in Mumbai, as major stakeholders in the banking sector are based on Mumbai.

Shri B.V.S.N Rao, Deputy Director General (Western Regional Office), BIS, Mumbai gave special address in the seminar and he was appreciative of the efforts of BIS in making Indian Standards for banking sectors in security systems.

CHIEF GUEST, Shri R.K Mittal, Deputy Director General (Standardization) BIS Headquarters, New Delhi in his inaugural address informed the participants regarding the various schemes of BIS and their third party assurance programmes. He briefed the audience about the utility of Standards for common man. and requested feedback from the stakeholders.

He expressed his views regarding the important Standards available on security equipments and requested all stake holders to study the Standards on security equipments and give views for making the required changes.

During the Seminar, speakers emphasized on the need to increase awareness about National and International Standardization activity by all stake holders to help them in the era of increased globalization and emphasized the need for use of Standards. Various queries of the participants were replied satisfactorily during open house discussions.

Shri Dara E Byramjee, Executive Vice President of M/s Godrej Security Solutions also participated in the inaugural programme of the seminar and wished and thanked all the participants.

The seminar ended with a hearty vote of thanks by Shri A Renga Rajan, Head (MED), BIS, New Delhi. He thanked the dignitaries, distinguished speakers and participants who have been kind enough to be in the seminar despite all their preoccupations and requested press/media to give wide publicity to the seminar. He emphasized that deliberations will help to crystallize the thought process on the subject and bring awareness and thoughts from various stake holders for further improvement and refinement of the Indian Standards in the security equipments for banking and other financial institutions.
