Intent of Cooperation between GIFT City & Qianhai, Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone signed

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel, today held high level discussions at Qianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone with the Chairman Mr. Zhang.
Situated at the shore of South China Sea and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau, Qianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone has developed as an innovation area for modern service industry, acting as a pilot area for close cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
Shenzhen is a major city in the south of Southern China’s Guangdong Province. Shenzhen today, is dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley and is home to one of the most vibrant economic zone in China. It also boasts of one of the busiest container ports in the world.
An Intent of Co-operation was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister betweenGIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) and Qianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone to work together for the development of smart cities in a reciprocal manner.
GIFT City is an initiative of Government of Gujarat to provide world-class infrastructure and facilities to finance and technology firms. It is being designed as a smart city of the future and is expected to become a major financial hub of the country in the coming decades. It is ideally located between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, on the bank of river Sabarmati, and lies in the influence zone of the ongoing Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The GIFT city project will have special economic zone (SEZ), international education zone, integrated townships, convention centres, technology parks, software technology parks, stock exchanges etc to provide an integrated township with world class amenities. Once complete will provide 5,00,000 direct employment and an equal number of indirect employment.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister visited the Foxconn Technology Group’s manufacturing facility, to have first-hand experience of the best global manufacturing practices being followed at the Foxconn’s- Longhua Science & Technology Park. Foxconn, ranked 32 in Fortune500 companies in 2014, with a group turnover of USD 160 billion, is a global giant in electronics manufacturing including mobile smart phones, tablets, laptops, LED panels, TV/ monitor, data centre, solar panels. Their products and services also include PC components, connectors and cables, computer software development and global supply chain management solutions. The Group contributes 5% to the total exports from China. The delegation briefed the Group Chairman about the electronics and IT policies and initiatives of Gujarat.
