Chennai, December 19,  2023 :   HDFC ERGO General Insurance, India’s leading non-life insurance company, launched first-of-its-kind initiative ‘Kapitu Varaam’ or ‘Insurance Week’ from 18-22 Dec 2023 – a five days camp on insurance awareness, in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Led by HDFC ERGO (the Lead Insurer appointed by IRDAI for these states), this initiative is a collaborative effort of the non-life insurance industry under the aegis of IRDAI’s State Insurance Plan initiative to champion the cause of Insurance awareness.

The participating insurers in ‘Kapitu Varaam’ include all 30 non-life insurers including standalone health insurance companies operational in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Under this initiative, the insurers will collaboratively conduct activities to spread insurance awareness across the 42 districts (38 in Tamil Nadu and 4 in Puducherry) and educate citizens to understand the importance of insurance. The main agenda behind this initiative is to reach out to a wide population base through the insurers, their respective channel partners, cashless garages and network hospitals across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and thus facilitate insurance awareness to the last mile.

The awareness drive will be primarily on key product categories, including motor, health, home, shopkeeper’s insurance and other retail insurance products. Additionally, citizens can also gather knowledge on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) insurance products. This multifaceted approach aims to empower citizens with knowledge and provide them a seamless experience.

Commenting on this initiative, Ritesh Kumar, MD & CEO, HDFC ERGO General Insurance said, ‘As a responsible insurer, we understand the importance of making our citizens aware of insurance and serve them in a more holistic manner. Under the State Insurance Plan of the IRDAI, the collaborative initiative of ‘Kapitu Varaam’ rides on IRDAI’s 3As – ‘Awareness, Affordability, and Accessibility’, wherein as an industry we aim to spread awareness on Insurance and provide access to the customers with the right affordable insurance solutions. Such collaborative efforts by the insurance industry with support from the IRDAI, the State and District-level Government officials will help in extending insurance awareness to the remote corners of the country.’

HDFC ERGO has organised several awareness drives through health camps, village contact programmes, and other on-ground activities in these states. The Company further plans to introduce deeper engagement programmes to inculcate the importance of insurance across the population to the last mile.
