New Delhi, June 21, 2019: After a prolonged hype, the much-anticipated new 5G technology is almost realistic now. This technology which is expected to be a revolution of the current 4G technology is already being experimented by different Chinese and American tech companies, so it is reasonable to hope that it will be implemented in the coming years, if not months.

It is expected that when the technology rolls out fully, it will impact on the lives of millions of European, Asian, and American tech consumers before the year 2025. But even with that being said, there are people who are expressing their doubts about the effectiveness of 5G, many are uncomfortable with how 5G is being hyped by tech futurists, predicting that it might underwhelm many once it rolls out fully.

To be honest, the potentials of 5G are yet to be seen and realized, so no one can say for sure how the tech will affect different sectors of life. Some governments are even too wary of the technology and have initiated court cases against it with the fear that it will be a threat to global security. Smartphone manufacturers, on the other hand, already manufacturing mobile devices that will have the ability to support and run the technology.

In the midst of all the noise and debate surrounding 5G, there are two areas that we can all expect that the technology will impact. They include:

  1. Enabling Smart Homes

Smart homes are already here with us, but 5G is going to make them even more functional. This technology sends data at a speed 1000 times faster than the 4G technology we are used to, which means that communications between homeowners and their smart homes are just about to get juicier.

5G technology allows millions of smart devices to be connected simultaneously, with all transferring information across the board within 1 millisecond. Mobile connectivity will also receive a huge boost once this technology rolls out completely. As a result, connecting to your smart home from remote locations will be convenient and seamless.

Switching devices on and off- e.g. TV, air conditioner, the elevator, and even car engines- from remote locations will make life even better and more enjoyable. If you live with a senior citizen, taking care of them will be easier because, with a smart home, you will be controlling the lighting systems, open curtains, switch on the TV, and everything they need from your office desk.

Being able to lock and open your garage doors will also help you boost your home’s security. And speaking of security, smart homes have the ability to lock doors, , and turn lights on at night. All these will be easy with the adoption of 5G technology.

And how intriguing is the idea of being able to connect your alarm clock to your coffee maker such that the latter begins to make coffee immediately your morning alarm wakes you up? That would mean tons of time saved as you will not have to spend time preparing coffee. 5G will not only make that possible but will also enable cities to get smart. Your smartphone will be connecting with other devices in the city to tell you how the traffic and weather are within the city, and which routes to use and which ones to avoid on your way to work.

  1. Enabling video streaming

The 5G network will make it possible for videos to load within milliseconds. That means that people will be able to chat on Skype and WhatsApp video calls without any buffering or delays. People will come together more as data tariffs, zonal barriers, and distance won’t be a problem anymore.

Streaming movies and songs will also be seamless thanks to 5G. For example, streaming movies on mobile devices while traveling in a bus or a train will be as easy as doing it using a laptop at home. And in off-grid locations where 4G technology falls short, 5G will make communication possible. Have you ever tried to send text messages in a crowded space where everyone else is sending messages over the phone? How hectic was that? With 5G, your text message will be sent in a jiffy even if millions of devices are jamming the network.

For people who love to go live on Facebook and YouTube, all you will need is an internet-enabled phone and a 5G connection to go live. And unlike in the current 4G era, pictures will be reaching your audience thick and fast and without any buffering. In 10 years, therefore, the world will be able to come together in ways never seen before.
