According to the latest All India Census of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (4th All India Census) conducted with reference year 2006-07, there are 1.56 crore MSMEs in the country. They employ 9,30,9486 people. This information was given by the Union Cabinet Minister for MSMEs, Virbhadra Singh in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha recently.
The Government has provided subsidies of Rs. 154.44 crore, Rs. 174.24 crore, Rs. 281.07 crore and Rs.14.06 crore during 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 (up to July, 2011) respectively to MSMEs, under Plan schemes.
