New Delhi, May 24, 2017: Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and HE Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe have joined hands to help accelerate the ‘Make in India’ revolution through the “Technical Intern Training Program‘. This was part of the agreement signed between India and Japan during the visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to India in December 2015.
The initiative is aimed at providing an opportunity for Indian youth to train in high precision manufacturing as interns in Japan. For India to be the next hub for global manufacturing, the Indian workforce must develop technical skills, technology and knowledge in high precision manufacturing. Japan is the world leader in manufacturing and Japanese companies have been the global benchmark in quality and efficiency. The initiative will also help Indian interns to imbibe Japanese best practices, work ethics and manufacturing habits. Japan too has a high requirement of skilled workforce given its internal issues of ageing population and the Olympics 2020.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been nominated as a Sending Organisation by Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. As a Sending Organisation, CII is mobilising and training the youth in Japanese language & work ethics. CII has partnered with a Japanese Receiving Organisation to ensure the smooth facilitation of training of Indian youth in Japan.
The first batch of interns will arrive in Japan in the second quarter of 2017-18. These youth are ITI/Polytechnic students in the age-group of 19-25 years and will undergo this high quality intern program for a minimum 1 year to a maximum 5 years in Japan. There is no doubt that such highly skilled youth, on their return back to India, will be directly hired by Industry and will bring huge benefit to India’s manufacturing economy as a whole in alignment with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Make in India”.
CII under the programme is targeting to send 350 youth in Year 1500 youth in Year 2, and 1000 youth in Year 3.
