Investors for a ‘Vibrant Karnataka’ at the CCS Conference

Bangalore, February 9, 2013: Top investors signed an expression of interest worth 401 crores with the Karnataka Udhyog Mitra on Day 2 of the 10th edition of the Corporate Culture and Spirituality Conference in Bangalore.

Mr. Shiva Shanmugam, President, FKCCI, lauded the efforts of  The Art of Living founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Vyakti Vikas Kendra, India, for creating a platform for global business heads to collaborate for a prosperous Karnataka.

Organized and hosted jointly by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and The Art of Living in association with World Forum for Ethics in Business, this global event witnessed a congregation of 750 business heads to discuss role of ethics and spirituality in the business arena.

Day 2 of the conference had a special session titled ‘Advantage Karnataka’ which highlighted Karnataka as a major investment destination aimed towards development of industry and commerce in the State.

The session was chaired by Mr. Mohandas Pai, Chairman Manipal, Global Education; Mr. H. V. Raghuram, Managing Director, Karnataka Udyog Mitra; Mr J. V. Patil, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade;  Government of Karnataka; Mr. Tallam Venkatesh, Former President, FKCCI; Mr. Shiva Shanmugam, President FKCCI and Mr. J. Crasta, Managing Director, CM Envirosystems and former President FKCCI.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Pai said, “When starting any business, human resources are the most vital requirement and Karnataka has some of the best. Karnataka boasts of more than 8,00,000 people working in the software sector alone. It is estimated that by 2020, Bangalore city will have more software professionals than the entire US.”

Citing the example of Bijapur as a major exporter of women’s apparel, and Belgaum & Hubli as major exporters of agricultural and industrial products, Mr J. V. Patil, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade;  Government of Karnataka said, “There is an immense, untapped potential in Karnataka for exporting various commodities.”

Earlier on Feb 8 the conference was inaugurated by a distinguished panel of dignitaries, eminent business leaders, global heads and parliamentarians who echoed the sentiment and agreed upon ethics being the foundation of any business.

Setting the tone of the conference on Day 1, Sri Sri in his address said,” In spirituality, we tap into the world of intuition which is an important aspect of success in business.” He further added that there were 7 areas where Indian business can be tapped – Tourism, Apparel, Food, Jewelry, Ayurveda, Yoga &Spirituality and Information Technology.

Corporate Culture & Spirituality (CCS) Conference is an annual event where leaders of business, governance, academia, civil society and faith based organizations come together to share their expertise on an ethics based approach and its impact on the bottom-line through the integration of spiritual values in business.
