Ishita Malaviya – India’s first professional woman surfer

New Delhi, January 19, 2018: Ms. Ishita began surfing in 2007 along with her partner TusharPathiyan and co-founded ‘The Shaka Surf Club’ in Coastal Karnataka in India. She holds the credit of being the first Indian professional woman surfer. As a global ambassador for women’s surfing, she has become the first Indian face to represent many international surf brands and has also starred in the award winning documentary surf film ‘Beyond The Surface’ that chronicles her life as the first recognised Indian woman surfer. Malaviya is passionate about raising awareness about the health of our oceans and her ambition is to promote the Indian coastline as an international surfing destination. She speaks out against the dark skin colour bias in India and is an advocate for greater representation of dark skinned women in mainstream media.
