Sweden, June 10, 2016: IWB Week was held at Stockholmsmässan 24-26 May, 2016. The three eventful days confirmed IWB Weeks´s status as the premier and most progressive meeting place for the wood bio refining industries including pulp, paper, bio energy and new wood-based innovations and products. Just like it set out to, the event enabled participants to share knowledge, innovation and new ideas with each other and created a platform to meet, network, do business and stay updated.
Says Nella Baerents, Sustainability Director of Arizona Chemical, the world leader in bio-refining of Crude Tall Oil (CTO):
“It is good that IWB Week focuses more on smart and sustainable bioeconomy. To us IWB Week was a great opportunity to communicate the importance of CTO refining into bio-based chemicals that are used in thousands of everyday products. We actively spoke for smart and sustainable bioeconomy at the opening and closing sessions of IWB Week as well as at our stand in the exhibition hall.”
IWB Week had a final visitor figure after three days of 1425. The visitors travelled to Stockholm from 50 countries worldwide, making it the most international event of its kind. The exhibition floor hosted 170 exhibitors from 23 countries.
IWB Week did not only offer a great exhibition but also a conference including four parallel conference sessions focusing on 22 different topics within wood-based biorefining. Except the exhibition and conference, the event also offered a wide range of other activities. On Tuesday, May 24th the Innventia released their Global Outlook report and on Wednesday, May 25th the participants gathered for a networking BBQ evening at Hotell Hassel backen in beautiful Djurgården.
“The feedback from the exhibitors, visitors and conference delegates of the event has in general been positive. The Nordic forest industry has for long time deserved a meeting place focusing on the entire forest industry including pulp, paper, energy and new wood-based products of tomorrow, says Adforum CEO Marcus Bergström.”
Gustav Melin, CEO Swedish Bioenergy Association:
“We had great conference days! Several speakers show potential for exchange of fossil materials and energy to biobased-products, sometimes profitable sometimes in need of higher fossil costs to compete. As we said during the conference it is not about decarbonisation of the society but about recarbonisation of products and energy with green carbon. It also became obvious during the debates that it is important to not distort energy markets with too many subsides and support schemes. Politicians need to work with level playing field and general incentives like carbon dioxide pricing and NOX fees instead of double counting of wastes or cellulose or raw material lists, which interfere too much with ordinary market conditions.”
The event was a good platform for presenting new ideas, solutions, and inventions. A couple of examples among many: using biodiesel made from RME and octanol to run diesel trains in cold climate, and a new type of paper sacks for pellets instead of the current plastic sacks.
