Bangalore March 6, 2014 :  Industry should be sensitive to acquiring farmers’ land and not keep the acquired land idle for too long.

Addressing the CII-Karnataka’s State Council meet on ‘Karnataka for India’s Growth Story’, Kaushik Mukherjee, Karnataka Chief Secretary, said land availability is one of the major issues faced by industry.

Most of the land is owned by farmers and acquisition of land is putting pressure on the farmers’ ability to produce food.

“Also, the government needs to stop thinking on the lines of concession and rather concentrate on providing good governance with uniform policies and practices,” he added.

Stressing on local employment, he called on industry to invest in skill development to make local population more employable, thereby promoting an atmosphere of goodwill.

Soumitra Bhattacharya, Chairman CII Karnataka and Joint Managing Director, Bosch Ltd, said a collaborative effort is needed between all stakeholders to chart a road map on how various issues can be taken forward. Navas Meeran, Deputy Chairman, CII Southern Region, said huge problems existed in Bangalore in terms of waste management, waterand infrastructure development.
