MANGALORE, MAY 31, 2014 –Â Â The Karnataka Government will come out with an industrial policy soon, K Rathna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industry, said here on Friday.
She was speaking at an interactive meeting with the members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here.
Replying to a suggestion by a member that the government encourage private parties to set up industrial parks in the State, she said such an initiative is likely to take shape in the proposed industrial policy. The policy will be announced in a month, she said.
The Karnataka Government had come out with an industrial policy in 2009 valid for five years.
Focus on Mangalore
Stating that Mangalore has the potential for the development of industries and export, she said she would work on solving the problems of industrial sector in the region.
Referring to her recent visit to New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), she said the port is interested in working together with the State government. However, some of the issues related to infrastructure facilities in the hinterland will have to be tackled for boosting the growth of export from the port, she said.
On the development of knowledge industry in Mangalore region, she said she would interact with the information technology companies in this regard.
M Maheshwar Rao, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of Department of Industries and Commerce, spoke on the occasion.
Mohammed Ameen, president of KCCI, submitted a memorandum to the government on various issues affecting the industrial sector in the region.
