Kerala aims to be entrepreneur-driven

 Kochi, September 15, 2014 – The Kerala Government has taken steps to turn the State into an entrepreneur driven state, Industries and IT minister PK Kunhalikutty, said today.

To propel growth for industries, especially for startups, the government is considering making some changes in its industrial policy. There will be some minor modifications and the draft is in final stages which would be placed before the Cabinet soon, the Minister said.

He was speaking to reporters here in connection with the Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES), a first of its kind initiative in the country to be held at Adlux International Convention Centre at Angamally on Friday.

The objective of the government is to promote enterprises that are environment friendly and require less land besides providing employment to many, he said.

Kerala, according to the Minister, has emerged the second state after Karnataka in entrepreneurship. This was revealed by the Hyderabad-based research institute NISIET, he said adding that the State was aiming to add another 500 startups by 2016 to touch 1,000.

He pointed out that the certain sectors in the state, which are driven by youth, has witnessed big success after the Emerging Kerala event in 2012.

Speaking on the occasion, Aruna Sundararajan, Managing Director of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), said that YES will have seven sessions spanning from agriculture and food processing, tourism, business Innovation and green technology, healthcare and life sciences, electronics and digital media.
