New Delhi, September 27, 2019: The fifth edition of ‘Long Night of LiteratureS’ is all set to mesmerize the Literature lovers of the capital on Friday evening, 27th September, 2019 at Instituto Cervantesin New Delhi.On the occasion of theEuropean Day of Languages,authors from Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey will be participating in the current edition. Featuring a diverse mix of writers from different European countries, the upcoming literary gathering promises to be a lively affair for literary enthusiasts.
The format of the event encourages the audience to listen to a number of authors through the course of the evening. Each author reads to rotating audience groups of 12-15 people in their native languages, after which the audience has the opportunity to interact with the author in English to discuss their work and literature on a broader scope. The group then moves on to the next room to listen to another author. This concept allows the audience to have close interactions with the authors.
“We are delighted to host international writers and intellectuals across Europe. This unique format enables the audience to experience a rich mix of European writings and languages. We take this as an opportunity to present many European Literatures during one evening and from a common platform,” tells Ignacio Vitórica Hamilton from the Spanish Embassy and Instituto Cervantes, which serves as the venue for Long Night LiteratureS in New Delhi.
The event will be graced by a group of award-winning, renowned European authors who will be illuminating the audience by presenting their compositions:

The event will also feature three winners of the European Union Literature Prize:
- Ms.Çiler İlhan (Turkey)
- Ms. Jan Carson (Ireland)
- Ms.Marta Dzido (Poland)
One of the highlights of the evening will be a virtual reality adaptationof Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” by artist Mika Johnson, representing Germany.
This extraordinary night of literary encounters is co-organized by a group of European embassies, cultural centres and the Delegation of the European Union to India, including:
