Mumbai, September 04, 2016: Master Prathamesh Sanjay Shirodkar, aged 9 years from AVN UCMAS Thane centre and Miss Disha Mahale, aged 8 from Nippon Educational Institute Nerul of Mumbai state has accomplished their feat by winning the ‘Champion’ award with cash and rewards worth Rs. 5100/-, besides the Champions trophy.
The 15th National UCMAS Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition was hosted by UCMAS India, provider of the leading Abacus and Mental Arithmetic program for children. The competition was held at Chandan Van, Jaipur, Rajasthan on 27th of August 2016, followed by an Awards Ceremony on 28th August 2016.
Mr. Chandrakant Mishra, Director of CBS Education Pvt. Ltd. , said, “Abacus has proved to be excellent sport for brain, and the winners have brought lot of pride to their respective cities and training centres by demonstrating highest level of mathematic skills with the help of hand and eye calculation.”
More than 5,000 exams were conducted on that single day with students from 25 states participating. Over 1,600 trophies were distributed on that day besides all the participants also receiving a participation trophy. There are in all 30 categories of question papers and awards are given to Champion of Champions, Group Champions, Champions, 1st till 5th Runner-Up per category, and finally Merit awards. At the competition, which tests speed and accuracy in arithmetic, the UCMAS students had eight minutes to solve as many as 200 math questions depending on the students’ level, using only an abacus or mental arithmetic.
Also honoured specially on the stage were Master Parth Poddar, Master Sanskar Gupta, and Master Syam Sundar who had become World Champions at the recently concluded 6th Global Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition of WAAMA (World Association of Abacus & Mental Arithmetic) held at Hong Kong.
