Eyes 40% jump in turnover to Rs. 2,100 cr in 2015-16

Ahmedabad, April 11, 2015: The Russian ban on imports of dairy products from Europe has come as a boon for this private sector dairy products maker. Parag Foods, the maker of ‘Go’ brand of milk products plans to multiply its cheese sales with opening of the Russian export demand, potentially estimated to be around 500 tonnes per month.

“We have India’s largest cheese making capacity of 40 tonnes per day (tpd). The Russian demand is huge and with opening of Indian dairy products imports into Russia, there is big prospect for business,” said Devendra Shah, Chairman, Parag Milk Foods Pvt Ltd.

Shah further mentioned that looking at the annual cheese consumption of about 2-2.5 lakh tonnes per annum in Russia, the company may require to increase cheese capacity to about 100 tpd.

“Our cheese making facility is expandable up to 200 tpd. So even if there is more demand from Russia, we will be able to cater the domestic market and the exports,” said Shah, who was in town for a launch of company’s packaged Go Butter Milk in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Parag had registered a turnover of Rs. 1,450 crore for the fiscal ending March 31, 2015. “With focus on cheese exports and new products, we expect about 40 per cent growth in turnover and expect it to touch Rs. 2,100 crore by 2015-16,” said Shah.

The company processes 20 lakh litres of milk per day at its two facilities located in near Pune and in Andhra Pradesh.
