Chandigarh, April 16, 2015 –
The Punjab government today announced to set up ‘Milk Mandis’ in select districts to ensure milk to consumers at cheaper rates.
It was announced by Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Fisheries minister Gulzar Singh Ranike in a release issued here today.
The move came after consumers complaining about not getting pure milk even after paying “sizable” amount from their pockets, minister said.
The concept of ‘milk mandis’ has been conceived on similar lines with ‘kisan sabzi mandis’.
“In first phase ‘milk mandis’ will be set up in selected districts and after the success of this scheme, these mandis will further be set in all the districts of the state,” he said.
The minister said this initiative of the government will help farmers to generate extra income.
In the initial phase, the success of these ‘milk mandis’ is more likely at Ludhiana, Amritsar, Muktsar, Patiala, Roopnagar and other Districts of the state. PTI
