New Delhi, April 15, 2018: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday launched web-based application ‘e-FRRO’ (e-Foreigners Regional Registration Office) here in North Block.
Foreigners staying in India for more than 180 days on various visa categories, have to get them registered by going there in person or through their authorised representatives with the Foreigners Registration Region offices (FRROs).
With the launch of this facility, a foreign national can apply online by uploading the required documents and get the facility of registration.
The Immigration officials may ask the foreigner to be present in person only in case of doubt or other security reasons.
In February 2014, this facility was provided at four cities namely Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and Bengaluru on a pilot project basis and after successful trials and positive input, this e-facility has been formally launched and extended to eight more cities.
From today, this e-FRRO service is available in Kolkata, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Kochi, Thiruvananthanpuram, Kozhikode, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
This service is a centralised, transparent online platform for the foreigners to avail visa related services and to provide faceless, cashless and paperless services to the foreigners with user-friendly experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said it has been a constant endeavour of the Home Ministry to provide fast and efficient services to foreigners visiting India so that they have a pleasant experience of their stay here.
Online services offered by e-FRRO scheme are not available even in some of the most advanced countries in North America and Europe.
The e-FRRO scheme has been implemented on the IVFRT platform with negligible extra expenditure, taking a cue from the already successfully running e-Visa scheme. The e-Visa scheme has earned revenue of more than Rs 1,400 crore since its launch in November 2014.
