Gurugram, March 14, 2017: Sunday was filled with fun and frolic as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre in partnership with Cello Geltech, organised an event called ‘SapnokaDibba’ – a joy ride in the Rapid Metro Gurgaon. The Metro took off from Sikanderpur Metro station Ron March 5, 2017, Sunday morning at 11 am.
Over 50 underprivileged children from several NGOs and schools were selected to participate and enjoy a ride in the metro with 35 mentors. This event aimed at having children express their dreams, explore ideas, knowledge and skills in an interactive space. Children boarded the metro with their mentors like teachers, civil servants, engineers, doctors, authors, CAs, poets, artists, and many others from different fields whom children cherish as idols in their life. These professionals discussed about their jobs, how did they get to where they are and what all it efforts were taken in the process. They all motivated the children to pursue their dreams. The event also featured fun activities where the children shared songs and dances with the mentors while aboard the metro.
Mr. Srijan Pal Singh, CEO of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Centre and Former Advisor to Dr. Kalam said, “Our purpose is to make children believe in the power of dreams as Dr. Kalam used to teach. In a country where a newspaper boy can become a missile man and a President, these children can overcome any economic difficulty by the sheer power of dreams and hard work. We have a dream of ourselves – to see a Kalam emerging from each of these children.”
“It’s a wonderful effort by Dreamathon – Missile of Dreams, an initiative by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre towards encouraging the youth of today to follow their dreams and achieve the impossible. Rapid metro has always supported initiatives which connect with the youth and society at large”, Rapid Metro officials said
“SapnokaDibba” is an extension of the on-going nation-wide event, Dreamathon 2017 where the Dr. Kalam Centre is reaching to underprivileged children in over 50 districts across India to encourage them to “dream big”. Its volunteers are conducting workshops across the country to tell children about careers they can aspire to chase and helping them with necessary guidance on how they can emerge successfully in their dream despite any hardships. Dreamathon campaign in Delhi was started in February with renowned actor-singer-poet, PiyushMisra, cricketer Unmukt Chand, RJ Naved, RJ Sharat and several other personalities.
