Ahmedabad, October 02, 2019 : The Gujarat Labour Welfare Board, which functions under the Labour and Employment department, has won the prestigious Skoch Award for its scheme to provide free primary medical services to factory workers at their doorstep.
Different departments of the Central and State governments had submitted their nominations for the Skoch Governance Awards.
The Gujarat Labour Welfare Board had submitted the nomination for its innovative Mobile Medical Van scheme, under which free medical check-up and medical services are provided to workers at their place of work or residence. The scheme was implemented under the chairmanship of Shri Sunil Singhi and guidance of Shri Vipul Mittra, Additional Chief Secretary, Labour and Employment department.
The unique project was awarded as a top 10 good project initiative in the Gold Category.
Gujarat Labour Welfare Board’s Welfare Commissioner Shri HD Rahul accepted the Skoch Award at the hands of Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishannk’ at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday. The minister appealed other states to replicate the welfare scheme.
The Gujarat Labour Welfare Board operates 13 medical vans at present which offer primary medical check-up and services at establishments along the pre-planned route. The services include pathological check-up, malaria testing, diabetes check-up, blood count, among others. More than 8 lakh workers have availed medical check-up under the scheme so far, while over 1.50 lakh workers have undergone free laboratory testing. The scheme is estimated to have resulted in savings of more than Rs. 25 crores for the workers.
Building and other construction workers welfare board under the Labour and Employment department operate 34 Dhanvantri Arogya Raths which provide medical check-up to construction labours which got into the semi-final. Over 12 lakhs beneficiary has got the health check done, Shri B M Prajapati , member secretary of the board received the certificate.
