New Delhi, May 28, 2014:Â Shri Ramvilas Paswan assumed charge of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution here today.
Briefing the media on the occasion Shri Paswan said streamlining the working of FCI and making Public Distribution System more effective will be his priority. He said that procurement system will be strengthened to ensure that its benefits reach the farmers, Minimum Support Price (MSP) and monitoring the prices of essential commodities are other important issues before the Government. The Minister said infrastructure at consumer courts will be strengthened to expedite disposal of consumer complaints.
Shri Paswan also had detailed briefing about the issues in the Ministry in a meeting with the senior officials.
Shri Paswan is an eight time MP from Bihar and the president of the Lok Janshakti Party. Starting his electoral career by winning Bihar Assembly election in 1969. He entered the Lok Sabha in 1977, from Hajipur constituency, was chosen again in 1980, 1984, 1989, 1996 and 1998. He has served as Union Minister holding various portfolios like Labour, Railways, Communications and Coal. Shri Ramvilas Paswan (born 5 July 1946) holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Arts degree from Patna University.
