Shriram Foundation launches ‘Education Scholarship Programme’ for truck-driver’s children, in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 17, 2015: Shriram Foundation, a social arm of the Shriram Group, has launched a nationwide ‘Education Scholarship Programme’, to provide the needy children of truck drivers and transporters with educational assistance. This first-of-its-kind initiative is in alliance with Bombay Goods Transport Association (BGTA).

Through this scheme, Shriram Foundation offered financial assistance and scholarships to 238 deserving children of transporters and truck drivers aged between 11 and 17 years. Rs. 3000 is given to students from 8th to 10th standard and Rs. 3500 for 11th & 12 th standard, as scholarship.

The dignitaries present at the function were Mr. U.G.Revankar,Managing Director, Mr. Hardeep Singh, Mr. P.P.Puntambekar– Shriram Transport Finance Co Ltd., Mr. Chimanlal Kona, President, BGTA and Mr. Ashok Rajguru, Secretary, BGTA.

The scholarship distribution ceremony took place at Indian Education Society Hall (King George School, Dadar (East)), Mumbai. This is the 3nd year of this initiative that began at Chennai and will be carried out across other parts of the country.

This scholarship support is applicable for the children of any school (including government and private) towards expenses for pursuing school education without any disruption.

Often, the children of truck drivers and transporters are deprived of quality education, which is one of their fundamental rights. Through Education Support Scheme, we aim to provide educational support to the needy section of our transporter fraternity. This is a step to help such deserving students to learn and prosper in this competitive world.
