The Akshaya Patra Foundation Receives Awards and Accolades Galore

For the Annual Ranking this year, The Global Journal considered a pool of approximately 450 NGOs based on three key criteria: impact, innovation and sustainability. Some very well-known and reputed NGOs such as BRAC, Action Aid, MSF, Path, etc share space with Akshaya Patra.

Adding to the glory, for the fourth year in succession, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, has been awarded the Gold Shield for ‘Excellence in Financial Reporting’ by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Akshaya Patra received the award from Honourable Union Minister for Law & Justice, Ashwani Kumar, at a function at Mumbai, held on January 23, 2013. Akshaya Patra was applauded for being the first NGO to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This recognition continues to reflect Akshaya Patra’s commitment to achieve high standards of excellence and transparency in accounting procedures.

The ICAI Award is a testimony to the transparent and responsible usage of funds by Akshaya Patra. This is a moment of celebration for all of us at Akshaya Patra and at the same time it has strengthened our commitment to reach out to more children.”

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a Bangalore based NGO in India. It implements the Mid-Day Meal programme in Government schools and Government-aided schools. The Foundation began its operations in 2000 and it is currently providing food to 1.3 million children in 19 locations across 9 states of India. The Foundation served its billionth meal since inception in 2012. Akshaya Patra aims to reach out to 5 million children by 2020 and steers its work towards achieving the vision of- “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.”
