Bengaluru, January 05, 2016: The key to mastering any art is practice and the case is no different with examinations. In tackling competitive tests that span hours together, it is important that students work out not just a specific questions or sections, but also full length ones that resemble the actual question paper as closely as possible. The reasons for this are many, some are discussed below by education experts from DEEKSHA NETWORK.

HOW MOCK TESTS HELP

· Create test taking strategies

Entrance tests and competitive exams usually comprise of different sections. Tackling these requires specific strategies that students need to develop over time. They need to have a clear idea of which section they would attempt first and in what order they would proceed. “Students should also create a plan about the time they will spend on each section. Attempting multiple mock tests enables them to develop this strategy over time. “says Prof. Krishna BS from Deeksha Network.

· Evaluating strong and weak areas

Model exams reinforce learning and concepts, and help cover a wide variety of questions that have appeared in the tests over the years. The scores obtained in these exams, also help students evaluate the effectiveness of their preparation. Though not absolute predictors, students can use their mock test scores to analyze areas that they are weak in and need improvement.

· Getting familiarized with testing environment

Mock tests help students get familiar with test taking environment. This becomes even more important in computer based exams. Practicing these exams in an environment that replicate the original environment as
closely as possible, helps students to great extent.

· Maintaining cool

While it is easier to solve questions of a particular topic or kind at a stretch together, attempting a mock test may not be that easy. Attention and energy levels may drop during the test or students may feel worked up. Attempting exams modeled around the original one helps students cope with stress on the actual day. They do not feel new to the exercise and are better prepared to tackle it.

WHEN TO ATTEMPT A MOCK TEST

Mock tests are best attempted once the entire concept framework has been completed and the student feels confident to take a full length test. Through the course of preparation, students may encounter fluctuation in their performance. Solving too many full length papers can cause excessive stress and affect the performance of the student badly. To avoid this situation, it is advisable to leave out sufficient time between consecutive attempts.
