The ITBT&ST Department, Gok and the consulate general of canada organise “Think canada” at Nasscom, Bengaluru

–          A startup visa program aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries by encouraging Indian start-ups to set up offices in Canada-

Bangalore, August 22, 2019: The ITBT&ST Department, Government of Karnataka along with the Consulate General of Canada today held “Think Canada”, a startup visa program aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries by enabling business collaborations between Canadian companies and start-ups in Bangalore. The event was organised at Nasscom in Bangalore.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mark Schroeter, Senior Trade Commissioner, Canadian Consulate said, “India is Canada’s fastest growing trade partner. The investments between the two countries stands at 50 billion dollars and is growing rapidly. Canada presently has 1000 companies here in India and India has 60 companies in Canada and we are looking at expanding this number by encouraging startups to set up businesses in Canada especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence. We are glad to be participating at the upcoming Bangalore Tech Summit 2019 which has become a platform of choice for innovators and global industry leaders to converge and showcase viability of current and emerging technologies. We believe that diversity brings about innovation and hence the Bangalore Tech Summit 2019 would be ideal for co-creation and collaboration opportunities.”

Mr. Sathyanarayana B.V, Deputy Head, Startup Karnataka, KITS, Department of ITBT and ST, Government of Karnataka gave the visiting delegation a brief about the dynamic startup ecosystem in Karnataka and how Bangalore is a preferred hub for technology and innovation which houses over 11,000 startups. Mr. Varun Ramesh, Trade Commissioner, Canadian Consulate then briefed the startups about the the start-up visa program.

The event concluded with Mr. Jayant Kolla, Founder – Convergence Catalyst and Mr. Deepinder Singh, Co- Founder and CEO, Prudle sharing their experiences on setting up successful start-ups in Canada. They also briefed the start-ups on the start-up culture in Canada and why it is a place of choice for innovation.
