New Delhi, Feb 11, 2015: BITS Pilani, India’s elite engineering college, has opened its doors to international students. India is best known as the standard in Engineering and Science studies, with Indian engineers working as leaders with global giants like Microsoft, Berkshire Hathaway, Adobe and Reckitt Benckiser. Indian engineers also hold leadership positions at leading academic institutes, and hold top science and engineering posts at NASA.

However, until now, BITS Pilani has not felt the need to reach out to students globally, as within India it receives applications far in excess of the number of seats available. BITS Pilani is ranked as the 6th best of all Engineering college in India, including IIT’s. And now, with an offer to international students to join its ranks, BITS Pilani hopes to improve its standing. The institute is now accepting SAT scores and announcing a scholarship programme of a 30% to 80% tuition waiver for International students.Young engineering and science aspirants from Bangladesh, for example, need not look too far away for a world-class education – they can find it closer to home in India for less than a third of the expense. Prof. Bijendra Jain, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, confirmed the new scholarship programme:“We are now accepting applications from International students who have taken the SAT(reasoning) and SAT Subject Tests, conducted by College Board, USA, for admission to our undergraduate programmes in Engineering and Science. This year, BITS Pilani is offering scholarships in the form of a tuition fee waiver from 30% to 80% to International students. If colleges and universities in Bangladesh would like a faculty of BITS Pilani to visit them in order to facilitate and encourage students to look into this opportunity, we will gladly do so.”

This move has been partly necessitated due to the fact that BITS Pilani aspires to have a more globally diverse student pool. This is similar to institutes in the USA and Europe; however, more importantly, it arises from the need to meet requirements of MNC and Indian companies now operating on a global scale. Placement Head at BITS Pilani, explains the reasons behind this initiative: “We keep hearing from our 200+ recruiters that they want to deploy our engineers not only in India but in the USA, Europe, Middle East and South Asia. Therefore, we feel it is important to have a more diverse pool in our graduating class.”

The application window for international students is open until 23rd February, 2015. Aspirants can apply directly through the international student admissions portal:www.bitsadmissions.com/ois.
