BSNL, SBI to launch ‘Mobicash M-wallet’

Hyderabad, January 19, 2017: (UNI) For promoting cashless digital payments, two most trusted public sector giants BSNL and SBI today joined hands to launch a mobile wallet called “BSNL-SBI MobiCash M-wallet” in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to newsmen here, Telangana Circle Chief General Manager L Anantharam along with SBI Chief General Manager, Telangana and AP Hardayal Prasad said that it is an open wallet where cash out is also possible. Vast retailer network of BSNL having presence even in rural and remote locations in the states can provide banking solutions to the rural masses through this wallet.

Cash in/ cash out, recharge/topup of BSNL prepaid and bill payment of Landline, Broadband and postpaid mobile, wallet to wallet transfer, wallet to Bank transfer services would be available during the first phase, he said.

Mr Anantaram said utility bill payments, merchant payments, recharge/postpaid bills of other operators would be available during the second phase which will become operational shortly.

While explaining the advantages of the wallet, he said to load cash in this wallet, customer need not have debit card/credit card/net banking or even Bank account and it can be loaded at BSNL Retailer outlets. Customer can cash out his funds via any bank or from BSNL Retailer outlets. Customer with no bank account can also use this wallet. This wallet allows customers to transfer funds directly into SBI bank account without any IFSC code. It can be used through mobile App (Android/I0S), web, SMS and USSD, he added.

Replying to a question, Mr Anantaram said about one lakh BSNL land line connections were down after announcement of demonetisation of high value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. He hoped to retain them during this month.

He said in a piquant situation, the BSNL while gaining 100 news connections and it was loosing 80 old ones.

As many as 518 Wi-Fi hots spots were established in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Mr Anantaram said and added 50 more hot spots will be established by March 2017. – Untied News of India
