Hyderabad, August 21, 2014 – The three-day sixth edition of India Foodex that will showcase the latest products and technology in the food processing and packaging sectors will kick off in Bangalore from August 22.

This holds significance in the context of the new target of the Ministry of Agriculture to double production of all food crops through the National Food Security Mission.

S Jafar Naqvi, Chief Coordinator, said about 29 countries have confirmed participation in the event. “We are expected about 345 stalls, with more than 50 per cent from overseas participants,” he told media persons here today.

Countries such as France, China, USA, Holland, Spain, New Zealand, Belgium and Brazil are expected to participate in the event.

The event will seek to focus on potential sectors such as canning, refrigeration, poultry, ready-to-eat products and high protein products.

Naqvi said the industry would be highlighting the need for more availability of funds through the event. “Last fiscal, the Ministry had earmarked an allocation of Rs. 708 crore. One of the issues which the government needs to decide is allowing foreign direct investment in the food processing sector, which today accounts for 1.5 per cent of the total FDI coming into the country,” he said.
