APM Terminals launch South India’s first cold storage facility at Ponneri

Chennai, April 21, 2018: APM Terminals on Wednesday inaugurated its first state-of-the-art cold storage warehouse in India, which will ensure reliable and stable transport of cargo, including goods such as fish, fruits, medicines, and specialty chemicals, which require strict temperature control throughout the supply chain.

The new facility, spread over 10,000 sqm, was located in the Northern Chennai suburb of Ponneri.

The warehouse would provide refrigerated container plug-in facilities for cold warehousing with services ranging from customs examination and clearance under controlled temperature, value-added services like palletization and packaging, on-wheel customs seal verification and bonded cargo movement to different seaports and airports.

The services would be available for both domestic and international import/export customers.

The cold chain solutions facility was the first of its kind in South India as it was integrated with APM Terminals’ container freight station.

The facility would offer customs clearance facilitation and has close proximity to the Chennai, Ennore, Kattupalli and Krishnapattnam ports with round the clock accessibility.
An additional cold chain solutions facility for domestic use has been built in close proximity to the container freight station, a release from APM Terminals said.

The cold stage facility was inaugurated by Chief Commissioner of Customs, Chennai Zone M Ajit Kumar in the presence of Dries van Dongen, Global Head of Inland Services, APM Terminals, and officials from various Government departments.
