New Delhi, July 18, 2016: The Ministry of External Affairs (@MEAIndia), one of the most active ministries on Twitter in the NDA Government, has used its Twitter accounts in an innovative way to report on the ongoing operation #SankatMochan. This operation, to airlift over 300 Indians stranded at war-torn South Sudan’s capital city Juba, unfolded in real time on Twitter through documented native video Tweets and live Tweets on the Ministry’s movements from July 13 to 15. Under the supervision of Vijay Kumar Singh (Gen_VKSingh), the Minister of State for External Affairs, #SankatMochan has taken flight, and he has used his Twitter account to provide regular updates on the operation, right from the decision-making process to the successful return of the aircraft on July 15.
The Ministry’s use of native video on Twitter for #SankatMochan have provided citizens a window into all the action of a critical news moment, and allowed them to witness the operation unfold in real time. Hashtags #OperationSankatMochan and #SankatMochan made Twitter the central information ground for the operation.
