FKCCI- Press Release – Kodagu Business Development Summit

FKCCI, in collaboration with Kodagu District Chamber of Commerce & Industry with the support from Department of Industry and Commerce, Department of Tourism, Department of Infrastructure Development, KSSIDC, Karnataka Udyog Mitra, NSIC, KSRTC had organized a Kodagu Business Summit at Madikeri on 18th December 2012.

Sri. Jagadish Shettar, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri K.G. Bopaiah, Hon’ble Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Sri M.P. Appachu (Ranjan), Hon’ble Minister for Youth Services, Sports & Kodagu District In Charge Minister, Sri B. Shivappa, President, Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, Sri T. John, MLC, Sri H.M. Nandakumar, President, City Municipal Council Madikeri were the main Guests participated in the inaugural session of the summit.

Sri. K Shiva Shanmugam, President, FKCCI, in his welcome address said that the summit would project the enormous investment potential of Kodagu district in Tourism, Environmental friendly industries, food processing, horticulture, infrastructure sectors.

Sri. G. Chidvilas, President, Kodagu District Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Madikeri said that the consent of various organizations was taken before announcing the summit. He further said that the objective of the summit was to stop migration of youth from Kodagu District by creating more job opportunities in the District.

Sri Jagadish Shettar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka said that Eco-friendly and agro based industries should be set up in Kodagu. He further said that the State Government committed to ensure that environment is not harmed with the setting up of industries. He was of the opinion that conserving the environment should go along with carrying out development activities. He further said the Government would give emphasis to those industries which do not harm environment.

Sri M.P. Appachu (Ranjan), Hon’ble Minister for Youth Services, Sports & Kodagu District In Charge Minister said that Government land would be given to the investors to set up their units in Kodagu and no private land would be acquired. He added by saying that new industries would generate employment opportunities which would check the migration of youth from the district to other places in search of employment.

Sri K.G. Bopaiah, Hon’ble Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly said that the Govt. would concentrate more on agro-based industries since Kodagu’s Economy is agriculture based. He assured that all MoU’s signed in the Summit would be environmental friendly.

Sri. A.K. Subbaiah, Ex. MLC & Sri. T. John, MLC also participated in the inaugural session.

During the summit, 260 investors signed EOIs with the State Govt. for investing in various projects, to the tune of Rs.3,600 crores.
