“Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.”

By Anthony Burgess

Language translation may seem like a normal, less important task to many. The positive difference in communication development due to translation looks small from afar but is so widely evident when observed closely. In a world of millions of languages spread unevenly across continents, there has been a wide gap in terms of culture and spoken language. Translation and interpretation have helped bridge this gap and enabled the spreading of knowledge and cultural awareness worldwide.

To recognize these efforts of translators and interpreters, the UN General Assembly, on May 17, 2017, adopted a resolution to mark September 30th as International Translation Day. This day has been promoted to recognize the role and efforts of translation professionals in bringing the world together, by bridging language and cultural gaps.

September 30th is celebrated as the feast day of St Jerome who translated the Bible and is considered a patron saint of the translators. These celebrations have been promoted worldwide by the International Federation of Translators (FIT), which was formed in 1953 to encourage the establishment of associations of translators, to bring them together and encourage cooperation among them and to make their profession better known and to enhance their status.

Translation day is celebrated to identify translation and interpretation services as vital professions throughout the world. Translators don’t just convert words from one language to another; rather they add culture and sense to those words so that the users can identify the alien content as their own and understand accordingly. This is known as the localization of language.

One such translation company, Fidel Softech, understands the importance of languages and has been working towards it for a very long time. Fidel is leader in language translation that aims at localization of contents to reach the core, local customers.
