New Delhi, May 20, 2016: Since the start of the year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account (@NarendraModi) has added three million followers, taking his Total Follower Count to a whopping 20 million. Since he was sworn into office on May 26, 2014, he has added 16 million followers, which is more total followers for any other Indian account except for @SrBachchan, @iamsrk, @aamir_khan, and @BeingSalmanKhan. Active on Twitter since 2009, PM Modi is the most followed Indian leader and the second most followed politician in the world, right after US President Barack Obama (@barackobama) with 75 million followers.
PM Modi has gone up the ladder in the Twitter race, by moving ahead of the Baadshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) who has 19.5 million followers. At the rate which PM Modi’s followers are growing, he soon may become the most followed Indian on Twitter, a spot currently owned by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) with 20.9 million followers.

To celebrate PM Modi hitting the 20 million follower milestone, here is the list of his top 10 most shared Tweets since he became Prime Minister of India. Unsurprisingly, his most Retweeted Tweet remains his victory Tweet when he won the Lok Sabha election in 2014. With politics and cricket among the two biggest passions for Indians, it’s no wonder that five of his top 10 most shared Tweets are related to Team India cricket matches. His fifth most shared Tweet with photos came a few days ago during his visit with his mother. His condolence Tweet for the passing of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and his congratulatory Tweet to Arvind Kejriwal for winning the Delhi Election round out the top 10 list.
