Rural BPO Gone Live in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh

An educational institute-driven rural BPO, named as Sunflower IT BPO project, has been launched in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

The BPO project has become functional in Challapali village of Krishna district and it was inaugurated by the State Minister for IT and Communications, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah.

Sunflower College of Engineering & Technology has initiated the process of setting up the rural BPO. Initially, it was started with 30 software professionals. Further, there are plans to increase the number by up to 100 Software and BPO (business process outsourcing) professionals in one year.

While appreciating the initiatives of the college, the minister said that in the state is full of talent pool and invited IT Industry to utilise the large Human Resources available in every corner of the state.

The state government is also looking to replicate this model in setting up similar rural BPOs in other towns and villages across the state.

The IT policy of the state governmenr also laid emphasis on expanding the reach of IT sector to smaller cities and towns. In the same move, a couple of years ago the AP Government signed an MoU with Infosys to set up rural BPO centres in 22 districts of the State.
